The Eighties
In France back in the 1980s the FM band was full of pirates and was later available to anyone who could afford it. The band was full of new, novel and innovative stations. Usually run and presented by enthusiasts who just happened to hope to make some money from it, it made for good listening as the music was selected by people who enjoyed it, usually the latest UK and US chart sounds and remixes. Sound quality was often very good, interesting jingles (US-stlye) spiced things up, DJs even used echo effects on their microphones.

It may have been a fresh and joyful time on the FM band but all good things come to an end. Business took over, stations were bought up and large networks evolved, with local stations vanishing to be replaced by the dull national networks. Goodbye Contact 96.5, bonjour NRJ.
Initially it wasn't too bad, it was nice to have a very professional network with all the latest music, presented by big names in plush Paris studios. But the French, being French, decided to halt the tide of UK/US music overwhelming the homegrown 'talent' and only allow a miniscule amount of non-French music per day. Got to protect Le Culture of course. So French radio became as dull and boring as UK radio. What a shame! These days I hardly ever tune to French radio, and I assume no-one else does either. I certainly don't get much feedback about this website. If you can't believe what a dull page this is, in truth neither can I now! But there's plenty of space on the web for everything, isn't there? :)
